What is the difference between "sit" and "set"?

Sit (intransitive verb) means to be seated: I sit on a chair.

    sit, sat, sat

Set (transitive verb) means to place something somewhere: He sets the pen on the table over there.

Set meaning "to place" is always followed by an object (the thing being placed).

    set, set, set
